Cartoon Network has renewed their original series The Amazing World of Gumball for a further two seasons – the show’s fourth and fifth.
Created by Ben Bocquelet, The Amazing World of Gumball follows the misadventures of twelve-year-old Gumball and his family in the weird and wonderful town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball’s school friends include a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana. The seris is produced by Turner’s London-based Cartoon Network Studio Europe and features the voices of Logan Grove, Kwesi Boakye, Kyla Rae Kowalewski, Teresa Gallagher and Dan Russell.
The animated series, which has received more than 20 international awards, is produced in the UK and airs on Turner owned kids channels in more than 126 countries, with an estimated audience of 36.5 million viewers across EMEA. In the UK, the series is one of Cartoon Network’s top performing shows, with an audience of 3.4 million viewers in the first quarter of 2014.
The renewal comes as the second season is currently airing on Cartoon Network and follows the October 2012 green-light for season three, which is set to launch on Cartton Network UK this September.. Cartoon Network has ordered 40 episodes of the animated series to be split across seasons four and five. Production on the new seasons begins this month, with a projected 2015 delivery date.
“The Amazing World of Gumball is one of the few animated family sitcoms for kids that offers a warm hearted, sweet and surreal child-like perspective on everyday life in a way that kids and their families can relate to”, said Patricia Hidalgo, Senior Vice President and Chief Content & Creative Officer, Kids, Turner Broadcasting System EMEA. “Gumball’s funny storylines, great characters and unique visual style continues to resonate strongly with audiences around the world. With two seasons having already aired in 126 countries and the third season about to start to roll out globally, we are extremely proud to be commissioning a further two seasons out of our CN studios here in the UK that will surely add to the success of this great IP.”
While series creator Ben Bocquelet added: “This is great news! I’m very much looking forward to working with our fantastic team for two more seasons of The Amazing World of Gumball. We have big plans for the show and are already preparing new episodes. I would like to thank Cartoon Network for being a company that truly supports their shows and artists and also to apologise in advance to my family for all the jokes that will be made at their expense.”
